About Us: The Guardettes of Orange County MISSION
To provide a fun and affordable dance program to the youth of the community, while fostering appreciation and knowledge of performing arts, self-confidence, high moral values and teamwork.
HISTORY
The Guardettes of Orange County originated in 1960 as a 12 member drill team that represented Garden Grove in local parades. Over 40 years later, the Guardette Program representing all of Orange County continues to dance on, with over 65 participants that perform and/or compete all over Southern California and nationwide
STRUCTURE
The Guardettes of Orange County are divided into two groups, the Performance Team and the Competition Team. Both teams participate in group events such as community performances, team sleepovers, pizza parties, team banquets, the Strawberry Festival, team trips and the annual Guardette Spring Show.
The Performance Team
The Performance Team is for youth at the beginning and intermediate levels, and membership is on a registration basis. The group focuses on the training of basic dance skills, performing, confidence and team building. Participants are divided into groups based on ability and enrollment. The Performance Team practices Saturday mornings and participates in performances throughout the year, such as: community events, The Santa Ana Zoo, The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival, and our annual Guardette Spring Show.
The Competition Team
The Competition Team is for dancers at the intermediate and advanced levels and membership is by audition, usually held in June. The competition team focuses on dance technique, performing, competing, confidence and team building. Competition members practice 3.5 hours a week and participate in performances and competitions throughout the year.
OUR STAFF
Our team of energetic teachers come from a diverse dance background. This diversity exposes our students a wide range of dance technique opportunities. The Guardette instructors are skilled at developing each dancer's personal strengths.
